OUR SERVICES
We offer a range of specialised Speech and Language Therapy to support your child's communication and development.
We provide neurodiversity affirming speech and language therapy, utilising a child-led approach, sensory strategies and a trauma-informed lens.
We primarily work with neurodivergent children and young people, aged 5-17, Gestalt Language Processors, and those with complex neurodevelopmental profiles.
WORKING WITH US
Spectrum Sensory Therapies provides specialist speech and language assessment and consultation linked to Education, Health and Care Plan processes. We do not offer ongoing private therapy packages. We accept privately funded work only where the purpose is assessment and written advice to inform an EHCP application, annual review, or statutory reassessment.
To support families in understanding whether this pathway is appropriate, we offer a free initial online consultation.
Families are welcome to book a short, no-obligation online consultation to discuss their child’s profile, current concerns, and where they are in the EHCP process. There is no expectation to proceed following this conversation. Where our service is not the right fit, we will advise and signpost to appropriate services where possible.
Please use our contact form to book your initial consultation.
WHY WE WORK THIS WAY
Many of the children we support have complex communication needs alongside sensory differences, emotional regulation needs, or have developmental trauma. In these cases, isolated therapy delivered privately is rarely sufficient as a standalone intervention.
It is also important to acknowledge that these needs are statutory needs. Where a child requires specialist speech and language therapy to access education, that provision should be provided through the Education, Health and Care Plan process, not families.
Our service model reflects our ethical position. We do not believe families should be required to privately fund long-term therapy.
Instead, our focus is on robust, personalised assessment of needs and clear recommendations that enable appropriate provision to be put in place through the appropriate channels.
By working in this way, our input is designed to support equity of access and ongoing therapeutic support that is sustainable, predictable and focused entirely around the needs of the child. It helps ensure that a child’s progress is not dependent on a family’s ability to pay privately, but on provision that can be embedded and upheld to best support the needs of the child.
OUR ASSESSMENT SESSIONS
Our assessments are designed to build an accurate picture of a child’s communication needs as they present across everyday environments.
Where appropriate, assessment may involve seeing a child on more than one occasion, across different contexts. This may include time within an educational setting and a further session at home or during less structured parts of the school day. This helps us understand how communication is affected by context, demand, and regulation.
Assessment focuses on functional communication, including understanding, expression, and social communication. We aim to use formal assessment tools where suitable. We recognise that formal testing is not always appropriate or accurately reflective of needs for all children.
As such, we utilise robust, personalised assessment processes to ensure that all areas of need are clearly identified and evidenced, regardless of the assessment tools accessed.
AFTER ASSESSMENT
Following assessment, we are happy to provide ongoing speech and language therapy where this is commissioned through statutory routes, such as via an EHCP or Local Authority funding.
Any ongoing input is delivered in line with the provision specified in the plan, with clear outcomes, review points, and collaborative working with education settings and other professionals.
We do not provide privately funded ongoing therapy once assessment is complete. This ensures that therapeutic input remains consistent and equitable.
