OUR APPROACH
At Spectrum Sensory, our therapy approach is based on the belief that every child deserves a personalised and holistic approach to communication support.

SENSORY INFORMED
We understand that neurodivergent children and young people have distinct sensory profiles that significantly influence their communication abilities and experiences.
Our approach goes beyond traditional speech therapy methods by incorporating sensory strategies to support communication and regulation. We recognise that sensory processing is fundamental to a child's overall development and communication skills. By addressing sensory needs, reducing dysregulation, and providing appropriate sensory support, we create a foundation for effective communication.
GESTALT LANGUAGE PROCESSING
Central to our approach is the understanding of working with gestalt language processors. We have undertaken extensive training to support learners with this language processing style and focus on building language skills through natural experiences.
NEURODIVERSITY AFFIRMING PRACTICE
At Spectrum Sensory, Neurodiversity is at our core. We advocate for inclusive practices, challenge misconceptions and promote understanding, community, and support for neurodivergent individuals.
We aim to create a safe and nurturing environment where children can flourish, communicate confidently and build meaningful relationships.
CHILD LED THERAPY
Child-led and play-based interventions are at the heart of all of our therapy sessions. We believe that children learn best when they are engaged, motivated, and enjoying the activities they participate in.
By joining children in their strengths, interests, and preferences, we foster intrinsic motivation and create a positive therapeutic environment where growth and progress naturally occur.
TRAUMA INFORMED
Our approach is trauma-informed and rooted in an understanding of how early experiences, relational safety, and stress responses can affect communication and learning.
We prioritise emotional safety, predictability, and respectful interaction, particularly for children who may mask, experience demand avoidance, withdraw, or become overwhelmed in formal therapeutic settings.
COLLABORATION
Collaboration with parents, educators and other professionals is an essential aspect of our therapy approach.
We recognise that parents are experts on their children and valued members of the therapy team, and seek to work collaboratively towards the best outcomes for the child.
